The EDWARD D. JAMIE FUNERAL CHAPEL, LLC provides a full range of funeral services and merchandise. From the simplest burial or cremation service to a complete traditional or non-traditional funeral, you can rely on our professional staff in fulfilling your specific needs and requests.

We can help arrange memorial services, the scattering of ashes, as well as providing special tributes to your loved one, such as the releasing of white doves in the cemetery or at the crematory when requested, to having video tributes on site at the funeral home at the time of visitation. Arranging to have the shipment of the deceased from or to New York, within the United States or around the world, is a service we provide with a network of funeral homes that serve as an extension of ourselves. We have a full range of caskets and urns to choose from, in a wide range of prices. Flowers, burial vaults, monuments, and keepsakes are available as well in our beautifully appointed funeral home.

The visitation rooms can accommodate the needs of most families, with seating capacity up to 250 in our largest chapel. Our spacious on-site parking with direct access to our building is convenient for those who have special needs. Pre-arrangements can be made in advance of need. Individual accounts are established to safe-guard guaranteed price arrangements, assuring that money that may be deposited with us as a result of a pre-arrangement will be used exclusively for the funeral of the person intended.

We have provided our services to those of all faiths and religions: Christian, Catholic, Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Jewish. Each family can be assured that funeral traditions are maintained in this vastly integrated community.

OUR HISTORY

My father, Edward D. Jamie, was born Edward D. Jamakordzian of Armenian parents in Tokat, Turkey in 1911. Orphaned at an early age, and raised in orphanages in various countries, he was finally reunited with his sisters in New York. While attending Fordham University during the Great Depression, he decided to become the first Armenian funeral director in the United States. He recognized the need to serve families who suffered a loss of a family member, knowing only too well the pain survivors experience when a loved one dies. He opened his first funeral home in 1935, located on 29th Street and 3rd Avenue in New York City.

My father married my mother, Lucy Tufankjian, in 1939, and she became the first Armenian woman undertaker in the United States. In the mid 1960's, my father relocated the funeral home to its present location in Flushing, New York. I was raised as a child of funeral directors, experiencing at an early age the importance of responding to the needs of others in a timely and respectful manner. While I obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree from Boston University in 1970, and continued with my graduate studies at the American University in Washington, D.C., I became a licensed funeral director in 1980. But what I learned from my parents at an early age is what I am most appreciative: respect, integrity and human compassion. It is those qualities that I have based the foundation of serving others in their hour of need. The history of a family is fundamental for the future of an integrated community. With that in mind, I am here to serve you, any time, any where.
